Scope and Contents

A collection of (17) microcassettes of interviews conducted by Mr. Dale Shellman with a variety of players and managers and others associated with the game of baseball. Interviews conducted most likely in the mid-1980s and include Billy Martin, Tommy Lasorda, Gary Carter, Mike Schmidt, Ted Williams, Tony Perez, Pete Rose, Don Drysdale, Sparky Anderson, Alan Trammell, Carl Yastrzemski, Carlton Fisk, Don Mattingly, Tony Kubek, Bobby Cox, Jack Buck, Harry Reasoner, Roy Firestone, Peter Uberroth, Red Schoendienst and others.

Biographical / Historical

Dale A. Shellman, born in 1934 in Minneapolis, MN, played professional baseball for one season in the Brooklyn Dodgers system in 1953 with the Class D Sheboygan Indians of the Wisconsin State League. He remained passionate about the game of baseball for the rest of his life and conducted the included audio interviews in the mid-1980s, most likely during spring training. Mr. Shellman passed away on December 22, 2006 in Raleigh, NC.

Abstract

The collection contains audio interviews conducted by Dale Shellman with a variety of baseball players, managers and others associated with the game. The recordings are on micro audiocassettes. The interviews were most likely conducted in the mid-1980s.

Arrangement

The micro audiocassettes are arranged in numerical order within the micro audiocassette collection in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum's recorded media archives.

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements

The audio cassettes are located in cold vault storage and must be acclimated before delivery to the research room.

Custodial History

The micro audiocassettes in this collection were created by the donor, Mr. Dale Shellman, and remained in his possession until being donated to the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in 2005.

No materials were removed during the accessioning or processing.

Processing Information

The materials were placed within the micro cassette collection in the recorded media archives of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in the order designated by the donor's original markings on each cassette tape.
