Biographical / Historical
Tobacco cards, also known as cigarette cards, played a pivotal role in shaping the baseball card industry. These cards, often included in packs of cigarettes, date back to the late 19th century and were used to stiffen the cigarette packaging and promote brand loyalty. They quickly gained popularity, especially among young collectors who were captivated by the portraits of famous athletes and public figures printed on the cards.
