Scope and Contents

A collection of seven scorebooks kept by Sid Mercer between 1940 and 1944. Mercer covered the NY Yankees. The scorebooks cover the regular seasons, pre-season in 1942, World Series of 1940, and Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak.

Biographical / Historical

Sid Mercer worked for the NY Evening Globe, New York Evening Journal, and the NY Journal-American. He was one of the founders of the BBWAA and became its president in 1940. He received the BBWAA Excellence Award in 1969.
