Scope and Contents

The first donation received in 2010, is a collection of manuscripts, a photograph, and recorded media relating to books written or co-written by Robert Creamer between 1964 and 1991. These include: 1964 The Quality of Courage, with Mickey Mantle 1967 Jocko 1968 Rhubarb in the Catbird Seat 1974 Babe: The Legend Comes to Life 1981 Babe: A Musical 1984 Stengel: His Life and Times 1988 Season of Glory: The Amazing Saga of the 1961 NY Yankees, with Ralph Houk 1991 Baseball in '41: A Celebration of the Best Baseball Season Ever. The second donation received in 2022 is a collection of manuscripts, correspondence, research files, photos, and clippings; not yet processed.

Some materials are open without restrictions but viewing materials does require an appointment. A 65-year release from the creation date is set by the Office of the Commissioner. Biographical / Historical

Robert W. Creamer, 1922-2012, was an American sportswriter and editor. He spent the majority of his career at Sports Illustrated. Creamer was one of the first hired on the staff of Sports Illustrated in 1954. He served the magazine as a senior editor from inception to 1984. Creamer also wrote the weekly Scorecard section of the magazine, and wrote for the New York Times. As an author, Creamer wrote the most definitive biography of Babe Ruth published in 1974.
