Biographical / Historical

Major League Baseball is an organization that operates two leagues – the American League and the National League. The National League has been in existence since 1876 and the American League was formed in 1901. In September of 1901, Patrick T. Powers, president of the Eastern League, announced the formation of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues (NAPBL). After 1902, the three leagues—NL, AL and the NAPBL—signed a new National Agreement. This joint organizational structure has gradually developed since that time which included many committees.
