Scope and Contents

A photocopy of papers related to Jackie Robinson's baseball, corporate, and business careers. This collection includes correspondence with public officials related to civil rights and political activities, media and broadcasts appearances, speeches, articles, and columns. Information relating to his early life, his family life, tributes, awards and condolences on his death. Also includes fan letters on his retirement, letters from notables on his induction, and his involvement in political campaigns. There are documents in the original collection that were not photocopied and are only available through the Library of Congress. Those items will be noted with (LOC only) in the folder title.

Biographical / Historical

Jackie Robinson was a second baseman in the Major Leagues from 1947 to 1956. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. After his playing days, he became active in civil rights activities, churches and interfaith activities.

A collection related to Jackie Robinson which includes playing career, correspondence, political activities, civic and community activities, his early life and death.

Arrangement

This collection is divided into nine series. Series I through VII include correspondence with public officials related to civil rights and political activities, media and broadcasts appearances, speeches, articles, and columns. Series VIII and IX relate to his early life, his family life, tributes, awards and condolences on his death.
