Biographical / Historical

Up until 1968, the major league baseball champions were decided with a World Series. Starting in 1969, American and National Leagues each played a championship series to determine who would go to the World Series. In 1995, each league played two Division Series, with the winners of each playing in their league Championship Series, and onto the World Series. The first wild card game was in 2012, this is when there is a tie within a division and they play one extra game to determine who moves on to the division series.
