This collection is comprised of correspondence, office and financial files, scouting reports, player and staff files. Also included are files of the Detroit Tigers Minor League affiliates.

Biographical / Historical

The history of the Detroit Tigers, a professional baseball franchise based in Detroit, Michigan, dates back to 1894 when they were a member of the minor league Western League. Becoming a charter member of the American League in 1901, they are the oldest continuous one name, one city franchise in the league. They played their home games at Navin Field, 1912-1937, Briggs Stadium, 1938-1960, Tiger Stadium, 1961-1999, and Corerica Park, starting in 2000.

Abstract

A collection of correspondence, office files, financial records, player files, scout files, and files related to minor league affiliates of the Detroit Tigers. These files range from 1934 to 1980.

Arrangement

This collection is arranged into 6 series and multiple sub-series. Series I Office Files, Sub-series 1 General Office Files and Correspondence, Sub-series 2 Financial Records, Sub-series 3 Hazel McLane Files. Series II Player and Staff Files. Series III Scouts and Scouting, Sub-series 1 , Sub-series 2 , Sub-series 3 , Sub-series 4 , Sub-series 5 Amateur Free Agent and Draft Reports, Sub-series 6 Scouts Weekly and Game Reports, Sub-series 7 Scout/Manager Reports and Correspondence, Sub-series 8 Tigers Tryout Camps, Sub-series 9 E.G. Katalinas' Manor/Minor League Reports. Series IV Minor Leagues.

Custodial History

This collection was donated to the NBHFM in 2002 by the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers were moving from Tiger Stadium to Comerica Park.

Appraisal

No materials were removed during accessioning. While processing, duplicates, newspaper clippings that were not needed were removed.

Processing Information

Collection was received unorganized in 120 storage cartons in 2002. In 2007, a full inventory of each box was created. These files were then organized by subject matter, with series and sub-series created. This collection is being processed by staff, students, interns, and volunteers under the supervision of Claudette Scrafford.
