Scope and Contents

A collection of souvenir banquet programs and menus. Series I are programs for annual and award banquets, dating between 1911 and 2020. This includes sports Hall of Fames, Baseball Writers Association of America, Old Timers Associations, and other baseball-related organizations. This series also includes state banquets which are primarily a state's hall of fame dinner, but also includes a war bond dinner, and Hot Stove League dinners. There are banquets held in recognition of receiving an award, whether it's an induction into a hall of fame, a humanitarian award, or outstanding achievement. Series II are team banquets, primarily relating to winning a World Series or a "Welcome Home" dinner. Series III are menus from baseball-themed restaurants, dinners, taverns, and stadiums. Of note, is a menu from Pan American World Airways from 1955, for a Manila to Guam flight. The New York Yankees were on a goodwill tour of the Pacific. This series is dated between 1916 and 2011.

Biographical / Historical

Celebrations and banquets have been a long standing tradition in any sport and baseball is no exception. This collection features banquets to celebrate championship wins and multiple sports-related organizations celebrating sports figures from their state. There are banquets to celebrate award winners such as Foundation awards, scholarship awards, and awards named in honor of someone.

Abstract

A collection of souvenir programs for banquets held by baseball leagues, teams, and states. This collection also includes banquet programs for a variety of organizations associated with baseball, award banquets, and menus from baseball-related restaurants.

Arrangement

This collection is arranged into three series. Series I Annual/Award Banquets, Series II Team Banquets, Series III Menus.

Appraisal

No materials were removed during accessioning or processing. In reviewing the collection in 2023, duplicate programs were removed and tickets were separated to the Tickets collection.
