Scope and Contents
A collection created and compiled by Jerry Malloy over a span of years while researching Black baseball, primarily the 19th century. It includes articles, many from Black newspapers, book excerpts, correspondence, and research notes. Newspapers include the New York Clipper, New York Freeman, Trenton Times, Spirit of the Times, Broad Ax, and others. There are files on players such as Bud Fowler, George Stovey, Moses Fleetwood Walker, and Dick Johnson/Richard Male.

Biographical / Historical
Jerry Malloy grew up in Michigan and graduated from Rockford College in 1968. He was drafted into the Army and upon his return, he attended the University of California and graduated in 1972 with a Masters in History. He worked for Osco Drugs for more than 30 years. His passion was baseball, specifically 19th century black baseball. He was a long-time member of the Society for American Baseball Research. (SABR) He was a published author of many articles, including a 65-page introduction to Sol White’s “History of Colored Baseball”.--September 9, 2000 Chicago Tribune, obituary

No materials were removed during accessioning or processing of the 2014 donation. The second donation of 2017 includes clippings, articles, correspondence, research notes, and published works.
