Scope and Contents

A collection of scouting reports and correspondence by George Genovese between 1964 and 2011. During this time, Genovese was scouting for the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Collection also includes 14 player information cards, which have name, school, physical description, position played, and some have scouting information, dated between 1968 to 2001. There are letters typewritten in May and June of 1964 by Genovese to Jack, giving scouting information on players he was seeing. The collection is organized alphabetically by surname with many reports having duplicate copies.

Biographical / Historical

George Genovese, 1922-2015, played in three major league games for the Washington Senators in 1950. He went on to play and manage in the minor leagues for 15 seasons. In 1963, he began scouting for the San Francisco Giants, which lasted until 1994. He moved on to the Dodgers in 1995 as a scouting consultant. During his scouting career, he signed about 40 players, including Ken Griffey, Jr and Greg Maddux.
