Dr. Lawrence Hogan Jackie Robinson Research papers
Scope and Contents
This collection consists primarily of interview transcripts and correspondence relating to the making of the documentary. It also includes audio and video cassettes and a handful of photographs. “Before you can say Jackie Robinson” is a video documentary that captures the struggles and triumphs of baseball players who played in the Negro League before Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play in the Majors. There are personal recollections of Negro League veterans and some who also played in the Major Leagues. Interview transcripts include Leonard Wilkerson, Monte Irvin, Leon Day, Larry Doby, Ray Dandridge, Dave Winfield, and others. This was a co-production between Union County College and Newark MediaWorks. Dr. Hogan was the executive producer, Thomas C. Guy, Jr was the producer/director, and Christine Vogel was the executive-in-charge of production. It first aired Sept 25, 1994 on the New Jersey Network.
