Scope and Contents
This collection gives an overview of the day-to-day general operation of the Commissioner’s office, primarily during Ford Frick’s tenure. It includes bank statements and monthly invoices from credit cards to miscellaneous office supplies. Also included is correspondence relating to admission taxes, duties of a commissioner and the incorporation of MLB Properties.

Conditions Governing Access
A 50-year access restriction on financial documents expired in 2017. Materials are open without restrictions but viewing materials does require an appointment. Please contact the Giamatti Research Center, research@baseballhall.org, 607-547-0330.

Biographical / Historical
Major League Baseball (MLB) is a professional baseball organization and the oldest major professional sports league in the world. The NL and AL were formed in 1876 and 1901, respectively. Beginning in 1903, the two leagues signed the National Agreement and cooperated but remained legally separate entities until 2000 when they merged into a single organization led by the Commissioner of Baseball.
