Scope and Contents note

The collection contains photographic prints and research notes, articles, and clippings related to military baseball teams. The time period covered is from the 1870s at Fort Sill through World War II. Included are teams from the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

Biographical Sketch

A retired high school social studies teacher, Anthony F. Gero, is the author of over a hundered articles on military history. He has also published several books, including Black Soldiers of New York State: A Proud Legacy. He is also a Company of Military Historians fellow. Over the course of his research, Gero collected photographs and created research files on military baseball history.

Custodial History note

The materials in this collection were compiled by scholar and researcher, Anthony F. Gero. They were delivered to the Museum by Gero in June 2017 and officially incorporated into the Museum's holdings in July 2017.

No materials were removed during accessioning or processing.

Processing Information note

Research materials processed by Claudette Scrafford, Manuscript Archivist, November 2017. In March of 2018, Photo Archivist, Kelli Bogan, placed individual photographs into acid-free sleeves with acid-free backers. These were then placed in new acid-free folders and boxes.
