Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

This collection contains papers related to longtime baseball scout Tony Lucadello. Contents include papers related to his youth baseball instruction techniques, the planning related to the video, as well as manuscripts of the related book Lucadello co-authored called The Lucadello Plan. The collection includes Lucadello's personal papers, individual scouting reports from the late 1970s and late 1980s, authored by him or submitted to him by other scouts. Future major leaguers in these reports include Jim Abbott, Steve Avery and John Smoltz. There is material related to the 1987 draft, including a signability report on Ken Griffey Jr. Also included are team reports, which do not have details on individual players, mostly single-word descriptions such as "Follow" and "Prospect." There are articles about Lucadello, his teaching techniques, reviews of books written about him and honors and awards he received during his lifetime. The oversized box includes ledgers listing prospects Lucadello was following, road maps, passes, an appointment book and an address book.
