Scope and Contents
This collection of research material was created and/or compiled by Dr. Debra Shattuck between 1987 and 2011. Shattuck began her research for the writing of her thesis in 1988, followed by her book, published in 2017.
This collection relates to women in baseball in the 19th century. It includes geneology on the Miller family from Peterboro, NY, Octavius Frothingham, American author and clergyman, from Boston, MA, and Sylvester Francis Wilson, manager of several women baseball teams. There is history on the Panahou School, Hawaii, and it's women's teams. Shattuck also includes research on the Cincinnati Suffrage Movement, women's higher education in the 19th century, and health-related issues pertaining to women and sports.
